Gladys Davenport Godfrey, 86, widow of Marvin Eugene Godfrey, Sr. resident 4215 of Highway 25 North, passed away, Monday, October 7, 2019 at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Laurens County, September 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Eugene and Fannie Bell Wren Davenport. She served as secretary and treasurer at Andrew’s Chapel, now New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church for 45 years.
Surviving are a son. Marvin Eugene “Mike” Godfrey, Jr. and wife Debbie of Greenwood; a sister, Mavis Shirley of Hodges; a granddaughter, Jennifer L. Rhodes and husband Brian of Lexington; and two great-grandchildren, Halynn and Holden Rhodes.
She was predeceased by 7 sisters and 5 brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM Thursday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Smith, Rev. Brian Rhodes and Heath Shirley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mark Moore, Barry Shirley, Larry Shirley, Tom Shirley, Mike Carruth and Richard Davenport.
Honorary escort will be the men of the church along with Dr. Russell Hall, Joey Sprouse, Randy Riser, Mark Riser, Wayne Bagwell and Perry Davenport.
The family is at the home of Mike and Debbie, 402 Colonial Drive, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Wednesday evening.
