Oscar Preston “Spooter” Haynie, 79, resident of Woodhaven Court, widower of Jewell Haynie, passed away November 5, 2019, at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born May 8, 1940, in Ft. Myers, Florida, he was a son of the late Frank and Annie Welborn Haynie. He was a US Army Veteran and was retired from Centurylink Telephone Company after more than 47 years of service, having started with Greenwood Telephone Company.
A member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, he had more recently been attending North Greenwood Church of God.
The last member of his immediate family, he is survived by a nephew and a niece.
He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Haynie.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Al Kissiah and Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. Entombment will be in the Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
Honorary escort will be present and former employees of the telephone company in all of its names throughout the years.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 Friday afternoon, before the service.
