Precious Elkins and Briana Wade netted 24 and 22 points respectively Wednesday night to lead the Lander women's basketball team to a 70-63 come-from-behind Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern.
Lander improves to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the PBC, while GSW drops to 3-16, 1-11.
Elkins connected on 10-of-19 field goals and all four of her free throws, while Wade was 7-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-3 threes, to go along with 5-of-10 foul shots. Jamie Shaw grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, while Wade had seven and Elkins and McKale Hardy six each.
Briana Walker led the Lady Hurricanes with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Stormey Smith and Jasmine McSwain netted 10 points each.
Lander connected on 25-of-58 field goals (43.1 percent), including 4-of-8 threes (50 percent) and 16-of-21 free throws (76.2 percent).
GSW, which led at halftime, 31-27, made 26-of-66 shots (39.4 percent), including 2-of-13 treys (15.4 percent) and 9-of-10 foul shots (90 percent).
After trailing most of the game, Lander tied GSW at 54-all on a pair of Elkins free throws with 4:31 left in the game. Elkins tied it again at 56-all on a layup with 3:53 left and the Lady Bearcats took the lead for good on another Elkins layup (58-56) with 3:20 left to play.
Lander, which outscored GSW 14-7 in the final minutes of the game, stretched its advantage to 70-61 on a pair of Aarika Judge free throws for its biggest lead of the game.
