Lander's Connor Lewis homered and drove in four runs, Colby Painter hit an inside-the-park homer, and Dylan Wolchick pitched brilliantly as the No. 8 Bearcats beat Peach Belt Conference rival Young Harris College 5-2 Saturday night at Dolny Stadium.

Lander improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Peach Belt. The Mountain Lions fell to 6-3, 0-1 in the league.

The teams will complete their PBC series Sunday with a double-header starting at 1 o'clock at Dolny Stadium.

Wolchick (3-0) tossed a complete game, including eight shutout innings after allowing two runs in the first. Wolchick allowed two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out 12.

Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on David Atwood's two-run single, scoring Trey Rogers and Jack Morrow.

Lander didn't have a hit until the fourth. But it was a big one. With one out, Painter hit a deep fly ball to center that got over Zach Bricknell's head. Painter came all the way around for an inside-the-park homer, scoring standing up. It was Painter's second home run of the season, including the game-winner in the 10th over the scoreboard versus Newberry College on Wednesday night.

The Bearcats took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Erik Lunde and Patrick Grady walked, and scored on Lewis's two-out double down the right-field line into the corner.

Lander increased its lead to 5-2 in the seventh when Grady walked and Lewis crushed a two-run homer over the scoreboard in deep right field. It was his second homer of the season.

Young Harris starting pitcher Justin Cooper (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings of work, striking out five and walking six. James Mills and Oliver Pratt followed him on the mound.

Lewis was Lander's top hitter, going 2-for-4 with a homer, double and four RBI. Grady scored twice for the Bearcats.

Leading hitters for the Mountain Lions were Rogers with two hits and Atwood with two RBI.
