Scholarship created honoring two Lander baseball players who made comebacks from incredible odds

This year, Jay Robinson and Tyler Wilson helped Lander University’s baseball team to the Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament titles and the NCAA Division II Southeast regional championship. That qualified the team to play in the Division II College World Series in North Carolina in May for the first time in the program’s history. Their amazing stories have prompted an anonymous donor to create a scholarship at Lander in their names.

Lander men's basketball signs Arizona prep standout Marco Morales

Lander head men's basketball coach Jeff Burkhamer today announced the signing of Marco Morales, a 6-1 guard from Chandler, Ariz., to a National Letter of Intent for the 2014-15 season.

Peeler Elevated to Vice-President of Intercollegiate Athletics
Erskine College announced today that athletics director Mark Peeler has been elevated to Vice-President for Intercollegiate Athletics. The announcement comes on the heels of Erskine's finest year in athletics as a NCAA Division II member with record success in the classroom and on the playing fields, along with the largest student-athlete population in school history anticipated this fall.

Lander volleyball signs two recruits for 2014-15

Lander volleyball coach Ashley Stathas announced the signing of two student-athletes for the 2014-15 season.

The signees are Alison Kirk, a 5-8 setter from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Ga., and Corrie Sherer, a 5-9 outside hitter from South Point High School in Rock Hill, S.C.

Lander's Patrick Grady taken by Tampa Bay in 33rd round of MLB draft
Patrick Grady took Lander up on the only scholarship offer he received coming out of high school and after earning just about every award possible, the right fielder from Pompano Beach, Fla. was selected today in the 33rd round of the Major League Baseball draft by Tampa Bay.

Lander baseball falls to No. 1 Tampa, eliminated from NCAA Championship Tournament

After winning an unbelievable 52 games; the Peach Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles; and the Southeast Regional crown; the No. 3-ranked Bearcats were eliminated from the NCAA Championship Tournament by top-ranked Tampa, 7-3, at the USA Baseball National Training Center.

Lander baseball falls to Southern Indiana, will face Tampa on Wednesday

CARY, N.C. - Lander University's quest for a baseball national championship must now go through the loser's bracket.

The Bearcats battled back from a 5-0 deficit but fell short, losing to the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 6-5 at the 2014 NCAA Division II National Baseball Finals at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

Coach Cox calls it a career after 45 years and 500 wins
Due West, S.C. - After 45 years of coaching and 500 wins, Erskine Men's Tennis Coach Vardon Cox retired this past weekend.  To celebrate his accomplishments and contributions to Erskine College, the Erskine Athletic Department in cooperation with his wife, Merry, and family hosted a surprise retirement party following the Erskine Open at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Reagan Cox just outside Due West, South Carolina.

Top-seeded Lander baseball advances past USC Aiken in Southeast Regional

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Colby Painter drove in four runs as the No. 1 seed and nationally second-ranked Lander Bearcats bounced back from blowing an 8-2 lead, scoring four runs in the top of the 10th inning to eliminate No. 4 seed USC Aiken 12-8 Friday in a wild second round game in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament hosted by Lander University at Dolny Stadium.

Connor Lewis hit a three-run double and Dylan Wolchik allowed only three hits, leading the top seed and nationally second-ranked Lander Bearcats to a 4-1 victory over No. 6 seed Catawba College Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament hosted by Lander University at Dolny Stadium.

POOLER, Ga. – Lander's Rob Prior shot an 81 Monday afternoon and is tied for 93rd place in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University at the par-72 Savannah Quarter Country Club.

Lander baseball earns top seed in Peach Belt Tournament

The No. 2-ranked Lander baseball team will be the top seed in this weekend's Peach Belt Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by USC Aiken, May 10-11, at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

The tournament champion earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Southeast Regional, which will be held May 15-18 at a yet to be determined site.

Lander baseball remains No. 2 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper ranking

Fresh off winning its first-ever Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship, the Lander baseball team remained at No. 2 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's national poll.

The Bearcats, who are 43-6 overall and riding a 13-game winning streak, trail only the University of Tampa. Tampa is 45-2 overall and has won its last 15 games. The Spartans only losses were to Georgia College, 13-5, on Feb. 16, and to Florida Southern, 13-6, on March 30.

Lander's Rob Prior selected to play in NCAA Division II Regional Tournament

Lander's Rob Prior, a junior from Surrey, England, was selected to play in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament it was announced this weekend.

The regional will be held May 5-7 at the Savannah Quarters Golf Course and will be hosted by Armstrong Atlantic. In order to qualify for the national tournament, Prior will have to be one of the top four individuals not on a qualifying team.

Connor Lewis and Patrick Grady broke school records and the No. 2 Lander Bearcats took over sole possession of first place in the Peach Belt Conference with a 3-2 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State Friday night in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd at Dolny Stadium.

Hallman nets Conference Player of the Week honors
Due West, S.C. – Erskine's Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Player of the Week during week eleven of the 2013 - 2014 tennis season.  It is the third time this season that Hallman has earned the honor of conference player of the week.

Lander's Taylor Alvarez selected PBC Pitcher of the Week

Lander's Taylor Alvarez, a sophomore from Chapin, S.C., was named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week Tuesday it was announced by the league office.

Last week, Alvarez tossed a complete-game, five-hit shutout in the No. 2-ranked Bearcats' 4-0 non-conference victory at the University of North Alabama on Friday.
