GREENVILLE, SC – The Post 20 Braves lost their first two games of the 2012 season in a double-header against the Greenville Post 3 Warbirds Thursday night. Both games were scheduled for seven innings, but game one went into extra innings before the Warbirds scored in the bottom of the ninth for an 8-7 win. They plated all three of their runs in the seventh inning of game two to take a 3-2 victory.
In game one, Shannon Smith went 2-for-6 with 5 RBI with Hayden McCutcheon, Will New, and Robinson Sanders chipping in an RBI each. The Warbirds tied the game up in the bottom at eight with a four-run seventh inning. A two-out single in the bottom of the ninth scored the winning run for the Warbirds.
Game two was a more defensive affair. The Braves jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Taylor Buchanan tripled with one out and scored on Joseph Caney’s ground out to short. They would add another run in the top of the seventh on a Robinson Sanders sacrifice fly. Blake Smith worked 6 1/3 scoreless innings before surrendering a two-run single that tied the game. The game-winning hit would come two batters later.
The Braves are now 7-2 overall and 6-2 in league play. They will take on Belton Friday night at John Nave Stadium at Legion Field. First pitch will take place after the Junior League game, which stars at 5 pm. They will face Hendersonville in the second half of an out of league home-and-home series on Family Day at the Ballpark Saturday at 11 am. Anyone 18 and under will receive free admission.
