John Harmon of Saluda, left, was one of six U.S. World War II veterans honored with France’s highest military award, the Legion of Honor. France’s consul general to the Southeast United States, Denis Barbet, right, made the presentation of the medal Mon., February 4, 2013 in Charlotte.
Barbet told the soldiers that their heroism embodies a French-American friendship that dates back to the American Revolution. Also honored were Clyde Polk, Elbert Davis, Dewitt Wells, David Gordon, and George Pulakos.
The family of the late Frank Pruitt received his award. The Legion of Honor was created two centuries ago by Napoleon Bonaparte.
