Description: The General Counsel will advise the University, it’s Board, officers, administrators, campus, units, faculty and staff on legal issues affecting Lander University. This position will further the mission of Lander University and must demonstrate strong ethics.
Minimum Requirements: Requires a juris doctorate. Must be licensed and in good standing with the SC Bar. Exceptional legal research and analytic decision making skills. Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and multi-task. Governmental/Higher Education experience is desired. Ten or more years of experience in litigation with civil, criminal, and transactional law strongly preferred. Must have strong skills in providing excellent customer service and demonstrate strong ethics. A valid driver's license and safe driving history.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of local, state and federal laws, rules, regulations and case, statutory and common law. Thorough knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules. Ability to interpret, analyze facts and apply and communicate to "lay" professionals legal decisions and legal principles. Must maintain SC Bar certification. Strong Microsoft Office skills. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Maturity, sound judgment, good work ethic, and the ability to work closely with members of the University community. Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with city, county, and officials related to the University.
Hire Range: $125,000 – $150,000 annually
Work Hours: Varied to include evenings and weekends as needed.
