Description: Under the general direction and supervision of the Student Support Services Director, the Academic Advisor's primary duty will be the advising and retention of Student Support Services participants. The Academic Advisor is responsible for a caseload of assigned participants for advising and monitoring activities including duties such as counseling participants, coordinating orientation sessions and teaching college success seminars.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years academic advisement required. Must have demonstrated sensitivity to needs of disadvantaged and ethnically diverse students. Prefer at least 1 year experience in teaching general education courses. Must have strong skills in providing excellent customer service and demonstrate strong ethics. A valid driver's license and safe driving history.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to interpret and communicate University policies and procedures, academic requirements, campus resources, student life, and support services. Ability to have sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population, including minority and international students. Strong communication, interpersonal/human relations skills. Ability to encourage and empower students to make their own decisions. Ability to act as an advocate for both the student and the University. Ability to identify students' needs for support services in order to make appropriate referrals and maintain confidentiality.
Hire Range: $26,988 – $38,460 annually
Work Hours: 8:30am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday
Summer Work Hours: 7:30am – 5:30pm, Monday – Wednesday & 7:30am – 5:00pm, Thursday
(occasional day trips and weekends may be required)
